Afternoon Track

Goal

Show advanced users how to build, inspect, deploy, and connect their own MCP server.

1. A smooth environment keeps the class moving

Standardize the editor, Python tooling, and command rhythm.

2. MCP concepts should feel concrete

Explain only the architecture needed to make the build legible.

3. Two small tools are enough to teach the pattern

Turn plain Python functions into MCP tools with clear structure.

4. Deployment should feel like the next step

Walk from local server to remote endpoint to Copilot Studio connection.

5. Brainstorming works best after a concrete demo

End with realistic team use cases rather than abstract ideas.

Emphasis

The walkthrough should make the code transparent, not magical. The afternoon slide deck will therefore include line-by-line commentary, progressive code highlighting, and architecture diagrams.

TipCanonical stack

The baseline implementation uses the official MCP Python SDK with the FastMCP authoring pattern and a deployment shape suited for HTTP-based hosting.

TipTeaching rhythm

Keep the afternoon code-first, but pause at each architectural jump so the room does not lose the plot.
